The Ogun State Police Command has arrested 11 suspects and recovered firearms, suspected stolen vehicles, ATM cards, mobile phones and other items in a series of operations across the state.
The command’s spokesperson, Babaseyi, said the operations also led to the recovery of two suspected stolen vehicles, three firearms and 25 ATM cards.
Police operatives also impounded eight vehicles for allegedly obstructing traffic around the Sagamu Interchange Bridge.
One of the operations was carried out by detectives attached to the Owode Egba Division after a complaint was lodged over a stolen commercial TVS motorcycle.
The motorcycle was recovered at Mokoloki Village on September 17, a day after the complaint was made. Police arrested Rasheed Abdul and Saula Meshinoye in connection with the alleged theft, while another suspect identified as Saheed remains at large.
At Olorunda Division, officers intercepted three people along Ayetoro Road on September 19 over allegations that they were transporting stolen electrical materials on a motorcycle.
Mutiu Gafar, 19, and Fatai Obasanmi, 37, were arrested, while another suspect, identified as Tosin, reportedly escaped.
Police said the recovered items included bundles of electrical wires, a change-over electrical box and a circuit breaker box, allegedly taken from a residence in the area.
In a separate operation around Dalemo, Ota, operatives of the Special Weapons and Tactics unit from Base 7, Abule-Iroko, stopped an unregistered tricycle and an unregistered TVS motorcycle on September 21.
Three men — Olamide Ayandele, 30, Tope Samuel, 40, and Ayo Peter Ojo, 30 — were arrested.
According to the command, preliminary investigation suggested that the suspects could be connected to alleged vehicle theft around the Ijoko axis. Police said efforts were underway to identify other persons who may have been involved.
The Igbesa Division also arrested 45-year-old Ameachine Anthony on September 22 over an alleged N2.5 million fraud.
Police said 25 ATM cards and several mobile phones were recovered from the suspect.
Investigators alleged that the suspect was involved in a scheme using utility bills, newly acquired SIM cards and associates to facilitate bank accounts before collecting ATM cards allegedly used for fraudulent transactions.
The suspect and recovered items have been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further investigation.
Also on September 22, SWAT operatives arrested Peter Olanrewaju, 34, following information about a suspected cult-related gathering.
Further investigation reportedly led to the arrest of Adebayo Sodiq, 36, and the recovery of one pump-action rifle and two locally made pistols.
Police said the investigation would determine how the firearms came into the suspects’ possession and whether other people were connected to the case.
In Ijebu-Ode, detectives attached to the Area Crime Office recovered a Safira vehicle reportedly taken from its owner and arrested Olatunji Olalekan following intelligence gathering and tracking.
The recovered vehicle has been kept as an exhibit as detectives continue investigating the circumstances surrounding its disappearance and recovery.
Meanwhile, the Sagamu Area Command and officers from adjoining divisions carried out a traffic enforcement operation around the Sagamu Interchange Bridge on September 26.
Eight vehicles found obstructing the highway were impounded, with the police saying the action was aimed at easing traffic and improving safety for motorists.
The affected vehicles are expected to be processed for prosecution on September 28, while the command said similar operations would continue where necessary.
The Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, commended the officers involved in the operations and urged residents to continue providing credible information that could assist security agencies.
He also reaffirmed the command’s commitment to proactive policing and urged residents to report security concerns promptly.
