David Beckham has shown his support for his wife, Victoria Beckham, by sending her a lavish bouquet of flowers amid the controversy surrounding comedian Katherine Ryan.
Victoria shared a photo of the flowers on her Instagram Story, revealing the sweet gesture from her husband.
The bouquet featured pink roses alongside white flowers and green foliage. Victoria accompanied the picture with a short message directed at David: “I love you @davidbeckham.”
The romantic gesture came shortly after Ryan apologised to Victoria over a joke she made while presenting an episode of the BBC programme Have I Got News for You.
The incident dates back to an episode broadcast in November last year, when Ryan made a joke involving a private email reportedly sent by David Beckham in 2013.
During the programme, Ryan referred to Victoria while making a joke that included an offensive term.
The BBC’s Executive Complaints Unit later reviewed complaints about the remark and concluded that there was no justification for the offensive description used in reference to Victoria.
Following the ruling, Ryan issued an apology on social media.
Speaking directly to the camera in a video, the comedian said she had been informed that the BBC had upheld complaints concerning the joke she made on the programme.
Ryan acknowledged that there was no defence for the remark, while explaining that she had been dealing with what she described as matrescence at the time. She also revealed that she had been working while caring for a 10-day-old baby.
The comedian said the joke had been intended to be humorous and noted that the audience reaction at the time reflected the context in which it was delivered.
She also pointed out that the original segment had since been removed from BBC iPlayer, meaning viewers could no longer watch the full exchange.
An edited version of the episode has now replaced the original on the BBC’s streaming platform.
Victoria’s post showing David’s flowers came shortly after the controversy and Ryan’s public apology.
