Newlyweds Abducted With Other Passengers on Kwara-Kogi Border Road

A newly married couple travelling with other members of their group has been kidnapped along a road linking communities around the Kwara-Kogi border.

The incident happened on Saturday evening after the group left Eruku, where they had attended an engagement ceremony.

The travellers were reportedly heading towards their destination when the vehicle took an alternative route after the driver decided to drop the best man and other passengers at Iyamoye in Kogi State.

The group was later intercepted along the route and taken away.

The exact whereabouts of the victims remained unknown as security agencies intensified efforts to locate them.

Kwara State Commissioner of Police, Adekimi Ojo, confirmed the incident and said soldiers had already begun searching the surrounding bush for the victims and those responsible for the abduction.

Ojo said the vehicle used by the victims was later found abandoned at an old police station in Ayetoro, Ekiti State.

He explained that police operatives from Kwara, Kogi and Ekiti states were coordinating the rescue operation because of the location of the incident and its proximity to the three states.

Security personnel were combing nearby bush paths and communities as they worked to establish the whereabouts of the kidnapped persons.

The police have not disclosed whether the abductors have contacted the victims’ families or made any ransom demand.

The identities of the other kidnapped passengers and their present condition were also yet to be confirmed.

The search and rescue operation remained ongoing as security agencies worked to bring the victims back safely.
