Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle has praised Stanley Nwabali for his contribution to Nigeria’s 2-1 victory over Madagascar in the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier.
Nigeria secured all three points in Uyo on Friday after goals from George Ilenikhena and Moses Usor gave the Super Eagles the advantage.
Madagascar managed to find the net once, setting up a tense finish, but Nigeria held on to claim victory.
Chelle singled out Nwabali for praise after the goalkeeper made an important second-half intervention when Madagascar threatened to draw level.
The coach said the save came at a critical moment and credited Nwabali for remaining composed when Nigeria needed him.
“Nwabali did well because they had a chance to score a goal, but at that moment, Nwabali was very good,” Chelle said after the match.
The victory gives Nigeria valuable points in their qualifying campaign as the team prepares for its next fixture.
Nwabali will now look to maintain his place between the posts when the Super Eagles take on Guinea-Bissau on Tuesday.
